BEHIND PRODUCTION
The Los Rodriguez family, with over a decade of experience in coffee farming, has been instrumental in revitalizing Bolivia’s coffee industry. In the 1950s, ten-hectare plots of tropical land were distributed to people from the government, leading many to move to Caranavi and become farmers.

Today, the majority of the country’s coffee crop is grown here, with producers typically dedicating only two-to-four hectares to coffee, leaving the rest as wild forest.
LOCATION
Caranavi, often referred to as the “capital of coffee” in Bolivia, is nestled in the forests of the Yungas Region. This area is also known for the infamous “Death Road,” which traverses the Andes Mountains from the dry Altiplano to the jungles of the Amazon. All exportable products travel this treacherous road before being processed in La Paz.

The natural processing of this Gesha involves drying the cherries on beds for seven days, followed by mechanical drying that simulates day/night light cycles. This method ensures a low and consistent dry without the risk of rain. Once the cherries reach a moisture content of 12% and have rested, they are transported to the La Paz dry-mill for processing. After the moisture drops to 10%, the coffee is ready for export.
